Beginning with 9th graders in the 2011-2012 school year, students have been and will be tested using the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR). Students will take STAAR End-of-Course (EOC) exams upon completion of core classes:  English I, English II, Algebra I, U.S. History, and Biology. For more information, please visit the “High School Testing Program Guide.”

See the Texas Education Agency website for parent and student resources regarding the STAAR testing program.

College Admissions Testing-

College Readiness/Placement Testing

All students entering Texas public institutions are required to meet TSI (Texas Success Initiative) standards by taking the TSI Exam or by scoring high enough on the ACT or SAT to determine academic readiness and placement in college-level courses. Please visit the Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 website for more information.

Sam Rayburn ISD offers on-site testing once a month during the school year (except for December) for students who choose to take the exam. All students wanting to take the TSI must complete a Pre-Assessment.

Please contact Stacy Baugh for more information.

The cost of the test is $30 ($10 per section).

If students would like to take the exam off campus, the nearest testing center for the TSI Exam is the Grayson College Testing Center.  Contact Grayson County College to make arrangements to test.

ACT*

The ACT is a nationally recognized college admissions test. See the ACT website for more information on registration, dates, deadlines, practice/study material, FAQs, etc.

The ACT is normally taken during the junior year.

Fee waivers may be available for students who meet the eligibility criteria.

*Sam Rayburn ISD offers a fall and spring administration of the ACT without writing on campus for any junior or senior that chooses to take it. The cost of the test will be waived for students who complete the assigned study guides; otherwise the cost of the exam is $37.

**Local home school students are eligible to participate in these exams at Sam Rayburn High School.  Please contact Stacy Baugh for additional information and to register.

Vocational Testing

ASVAB

SRSH will offer the ASVAB Career Exploration Program each year to all juniors and seniors. The ASVAB is the most widely used multiple aptitude test in the world that measures strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success.  It is commonly associated with military entrance, but it is also an excellent civilian career tool.
